Safety Notes Read on October 23, 2026
- Anza-Borrego: “Coyote Canyon Road Closed 5.2 Miles Ahead at 3rd Crossing,” and dirt roads “often need AWD or 4×4,” per the park page last checked 10/23/2026. Summer heat text says temperatures can reach 125 degrees; it is general text, not a dated alert. No flash-flood alert appeared on the park page.
- Borrego Palm Canyon: “The first palm grove in Borrego Palm Canyon is closed due to fire damage.” The notice is undated.
- Stale pages: the park’s road-conditions page shows “page updated 2/05/2026,” the wildflower page is dated April 25, 2026 (wildflowers), and the Laguna Mountain Visitor Center hours page was last updated August 21, 2025.
- Cuyamaca Rancho: no restrictions were listed, but fire is allowed only in developed picnic areas and campgrounds. For current fire restrictions call (760) 767-4037.
- Cleveland National Forest (Descanso Ranger District page updated August 6, 2026): fire danger “High,” with alerts for truck trail and road closures, the Airport Fire burned area closure and elevated fire use restrictions. No dates or details were given.
- Pine Valley County Park: the county site showed a “Storm Recovery Information” banner that we did not read.
Nearby In East County
Two Forest Service picnic sites on the mountain highways are listed under East County and are not repeated here: Pioneer Mail Picnic Site and Desert View Picnic Site.

What We Could Not Verify
- Our town list is our own grouping, not official boundaries. We named Julian, Descanso, Pine Valley, the Laguna Mountains, Cuyamaca and Borrego Springs; the Anza-Borrego places are in and around Borrego Springs.
- Kumeyaay tribal lands and casinos are left out. Pie shops, restaurants, lodges, gold panning and other businesses are not listed.
- Julian Town Hall: the 2129 Main Street address is the chamber’s, and the link to the Town Hall building is not on the chamber page. No hours or history are confirmed.
- Our draft list named “Descanso Gardens-type” local places. No such public garden was found in Descanso, so none is listed.
- Left out for too little official detail or because they are vehicle or camping oriented: Coyote Canyon (closed per the park), Hellhole Canyon, The Slot, campgrounds, Agua Caliente Hot Springs, Ocotillo Wells off-road area, and Big Laguna and other trailheads (mentioned only inside the Laguna Mountain page).
- Many places here list hours that conflict between sources or are not posted; each page names what is unconfirmed.
FAQ

No. Vehicle day use is $10, seniors 62 and older $9, and $5 with a State Parks Disabled Discount Pass, per the park page read October 23, 2026.
Is Coyote Canyon Road open?
The Anza-Borrego page read October 23, 2026 says Coyote Canyon Road is closed 5.2 miles ahead at the 3rd crossing.

We cannot say. The park’s wildflower page is dated April 25, 2026, which is stale, and it says blooms usually begin in force in late February or early March.
