Why We Prefer This Boat

H&M Landing’s long-range list prints the Red Rooster III at 105 feet and sleeping for 30. This site does not rank boats by size and has not compared it with boats at other landings. It runs both open party trips, where you book a bunk on a shared trip, and private charters for a group. Those are the reasons it is the staff pick. That is this site’s opinion, not a ranking from the landing or an endorsement from the crew.

Of Captain Andy: “Always puts us on the meat!”

On the deck: “There is always a bloody deck in tuna waters!”

What H&M Landing Prints

H&M Landing’s boat page lists the Red Rooster III at 105 x 27 feet with sleeping for 30 and shows two trip tabs, Private Charter and Open Party. It does not print speed, passenger count, year built or a written description.

Trip History

Press and fish reports describe Red Rooster III trips ranging from 1.5 day outings to 10, 14 and 15 day Baja voyages, with yellowfin tuna and wahoo among the catches. A third-party listing gives 1982 as the build year, a maximum load of 30 and a hot galley. Those items are not from H&M, so confirm any trip length, date or amenity with the landing.

Planning a Multi-Day Trip

Start with the long-range overview for the trip tiers, the California license page (anyone 16 and older needs one) and Mexico waters and passports for trips that cross the border. Then book through H&M Landing.

What We Could Not Verify

  • Our preference for this boat is the site’s own opinion, not confirmed or endorsed by H&M Landing or the crew.
  • Speed, passenger count, year built, current schedule and prices are not printed on H&M’s boat page. H&M Landing can confirm them.
  • The 1982 build year, maximum load, hot galley and 1.5 to 15 day trip history come from older third-party listings and reports, not from H&M Landing.
  • Only the photo of an angler with a big fish is confirmed as Guadalupe Island, Mexico. The other island photos are probably Guadalupe but are not confirmed, and the dock, sea and deck photos are not labelled by location. Only the dock photo at the top shows the boat’s name.
  • The passenger comments about Captain Andy and the deck are word of mouth passed to this site. H&M Landing has not confirmed them, and the captain’s full name is not printed on the boat page we read.
